About Us

I. The Church Background:
Aashish Presbyterian Church of Kathmandu is an extension of the Presbyterian Free Church Council (PFCC) established in Kalimpong, Darjeeling district, India formed after some leaders of old Scottish Presbyterian tradition separated from Church of North India (CNI), Kalimpong in 1973. We are one of the group of about 30 regular fellowships and Churches serving Christ’s Commission in Nepal.

In Aashish Presbyterian Church, we are a community of people of different socio-cultural backgrounds, in varied socio-economic situations, with families having children less than six years old to members over sixty years of age, supporting one another and growing in God whose Holy Spirit leads us to believe that His only Son, Jesus, saves us from being separated from God.

II. The Church Philosophy:
Aashish Presbyterian Church is one of the mainstream Trinitarian protestant churches in Nepal, where we celebrate and enjoy that we have been created by God in His own image! Despite its vicissitudes, life is worth living fully and in spite of the need, sufferings and pains that God allows on many of us, He loves us, always! God’s unfailing love of human beings and His unconditional Grace are just humbling for us all! The world that He has given us is beautiful but what we make of it is entirely ours. God gave us humans the wisdom but we humans abused it and many are still doing so. God’s sending of Jesus Christ, His only Son, to the world in order to forgive those who have sinned against Him and their own people by deviating from His commands is unique and unprecedented. While other religions claim to rid the world of sinners and punish them, our faith in Christ rids us of our sins and saves us from the punishment that we would suffer if He had not intervened! We do not know anyone who died for our sins except Jesus, the Christ, taking the punishment that we would have to bear if He did not do so for us.

III. Our Vision …
to be a community that …
Worships and glorifies God passionately,
Demonstrates the love and teachings of Jesus Christ,
Encourages everyone to accept the grace given by God to all through Jesus Christ, repents of one’s sins and follows the Holy Spirit,
Works for transformation of the human kind into a wholesome-being through a holistic attitude, behaviour and conduct,
Lives Biblically,
Prays fervently and
Serves God faithfully.

IV. The Church Mission:
To expand the community of Christians rooted in the Bible, baptizing and making disciples of peoples as commanded by Jesus (Matthew 20: 18-19) and equipping and nurturing every member for glorifying God.

V. Our Attitude:
Let the word of Christ dwell in us richly as we teach and admonish one another with all wisdom and as we sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)

VI. Our Doctrinal Standards:
We take the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Westminster Larger and Shorter Catechisms as our standards subject to Bible. We take the Apostles’ Creed and the reformed Athanasian Creed, the Belgic Confession, the Canons of Dort and the Heidelberg Catechism to help us express our faith and values.

VII. Our Beliefs:
God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as one God in three Persons.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Head of the Church, as the Saviour and Redeemer of the world who died for our sins, rose again and is in heaven and who will come back in glory to take us to heaven.

The Holy Spirit who dwells in all believers and sanctifies and empowers them for work and living.

The Gospel, which promises salvation and eternal life to all who truly repent and believe in Jesus Christ.

The whole of the Bible as the true Word of God, inspired and holy, providing the supreme standard of faith and living.

The Universal Church of Christ throughout all ages and in all places as God’s Body of which our Presbyterian Church is a member.
